# Lists

> Curated, smart, and rolling lists of records. The working sets your team acts on.

A **List** (called a *Collection* in some menus) is a working set of records you act on. A call list, a watchlist, a shortlist. Unlike a saved **View** (a query that recomputes on every render), a List has real membership and per-record work state: each record can be marked **done**.

Every List is scoped to **one object type** (Contacts, Companies, …). A list of Contacts holds Contacts.

## The three kinds

A List differs only in *how its membership is decided*:

* **[Static](/data/collections/list)**: a hand-picked set you curate. Search to add; tick records off as you go.
* **[Smart](/data/collections/queue)**: a saved filter, resolved live. Membership is always whatever matches. **No filter = every record of the object.**
* **[Cohort](/data/collections/stack)**: a recurring list that **rolls** on a schedule, **remembers** who you've already worked, and **carries forward** what you didn't get to. The monthly cold-call list.

## Where to find them

* **On an object**: every object has a **Lists** tab showing its lists, with a **New list** button.
* **On a record**: a record's panel has an **In lists** section: which lists it belongs to, with quick add / remove.
* **On a dashboard or page**: add a **Collection** block and point it at a list.

## Working a list

* **Mark done**: tick the checkbox to mark a record worked / called.
* **Add**: on a **static** list, search-and-add one record at a time, or bulk **Add to list** from any records table. Smart and cohort membership is filter-driven. You don't add by hand.
* **Remove**: drop a record from the list.

## Troubleshooting

**A static list looks empty right after an update.**
Membership lives in a dedicated store. Immediately after a release the backfill may not have run. An admin runs the pending database migration and the members reappear. Existing membership is preserved, not lost.

**A smart list shows every record.**
A smart list with no filter deliberately shows every record of its object. Open **Edit filter** and add conditions to narrow it.

**My cohort is empty or won't build.**
A cohort is empty until its first **roll**. Set its filter (who qualifies), then click **Roll now** to build the first period. If a roll comes back empty, confirm records actually match the filter and that your exclusion policy isn't excluding everyone.

**Records I already called keep reappearing.**
That's the exclusion policy. Check it's set the way you want. Set the cohort's **Don't re-list** to "Only records I've worked" (or a cooldown), and mark records **done** as you call them so they're excluded from the next roll.

**I can't add records to a smart or cohort list by hand.**
Only **static** lists take manual adds. Smart membership is the filter; cohort membership comes from **Roll** / **Top up**.
