# Cohorts

> A recurring list that rolls on a schedule and remembers who you've worked.

A **cohort** is a rolling list. A smart list with *memory* and a *clock*. Each time it **rolls**, it freezes the current batch as an archive and materializes a fresh one from the filter, **excluding** who earlier batches already contained or worked and (optionally) **carrying forward** the records you didn't get to.

The canonical use: a **monthly cold-call list**. Every month you get a fresh 100 leads to call, you never call the same person twice, and anyone you didn't reach last month rolls into this month.

## The pieces

* **Filter**: who qualifies (e.g. "Leads · no contact in 90d · West").
* **Cadence**: how often it rolls: weekly, monthly, or manual.
* **Target size**: how many to pull per period (optional cap).
* **Don't re-list**: the exclusion policy:
  * *Only records I've worked*, skip anyone you marked done.
  * *Anyone ever in this cohort*, never re-list a record, worked or not.
  * *Worked within a cooldown*, re-eligible after N days.
* **Carry forward**: un-worked records from the period being frozen roll into the new one.

## A period

Each roll opens a new **active period** (your current working set) and freezes the previous one. Frozen periods are the archive of who you worked each cycle, shown under **Past periods**. Members carry a **done** ("called") state that feeds the exclusion.

## Working a cohort

* **Roll now**: freeze the active period and build the next one. (A cohort is empty until its first roll.)
* **Top up**: refill the active period toward its target with fresh, non-excluded records, without rolling.
* **Mark done / called**: tick a record; it's excluded from future periods per your policy.
* **Filter**: edit who qualifies.

> **Note:** automatic rolling on the cadence is coming; today a cohort rolls when you click **Roll now**. The cadence still labels each period and sets its window.
