# Object Templates

> Reusable starter records for an Object.

An **Object Template** is a saved, pre-filled record that Custral copies when a user creates a new record. Use templates to enforce conventions and reduce data-entry friction. A template is itself a record (it just doesn't appear in normal lists), so you fill in its properties exactly the way you would fill in a real record.

## Defining a template

Open the Object's settings → **Templates** → **Add template**. Give it a name and icon, then open the template and set the property values you want new records to start with. When a user creates a record from this template, those values are copied onto the new record (any field they fill in themselves overrides the template's value).

## Multiple templates per object

An object can have many templates. The user picks one when creating a record from the **New Record** button.

## Default template

One template can be marked as the Object's **default**. The default is applied automatically when a record is created without an explicit template choice. It is the template you select as default, not simply the first one in the list. Clearing the default reverts to a blank record.
