When a teammate has the same thing open as you, their avatar appears at the top of it. Each person has one colour everywhere: their avatar ring, their cursor in a document, the outline around the cell or slide element they’ve selected. That’s how you tell at a glance who is where.

Where you’ll see them

The mobile app shows the same on records and conversations, including the “writing a reply” notice, and inside documents, sheets, decks and boards. A person shows as editing if they’ve changed something in the last minute, otherwise viewing.

Hover, jump, follow

  • Rest the pointer on an avatar to see what that person is doing and how long they’ve been there, with Go to, Follow and View profile.
  • Click the avatars for everyone at once. Click a name to go to where they are, once: their slide, cell, caret or tab.
  • Follow keeps you with them as they move. A “Following Maya” chip shows while you are. Scrolling, clicking or typing takes your view back and stops following, and so does the chip’s ✕.
On a whiteboard, following moves you to what they’ve selected. Your view and pointer are never shared: nobody can drag your camera around.

Troubleshooting

They need to be connected right now. A tab left open in the background still counts, but a closed laptop drops off within about a minute and a half. You only see people on things you can open yourself.
The colour comes from their name, so it only changes if their name does.
Following ends as soon as you scroll, click or type outside the avatars, and when the person you’re following leaves.
It shows on conversations with a reply box (chat, SMS, widget and email), while the other person’s reply box has focus.
