Overview
The Custral extension puts Stella, your AI teammate, in Chrome’s side panel, next to whatever page you’re reading. Ask about a press release, a company’s website or a profile, and Stella answers with the page in view and your workspace behind it: who you already know there, where things stand, what’s due. The panel is Custral itself, signed in as you, so it reaches the same workspace, records and permissions as the web app. What you open from it (a record, a list, Custral itself) opens in the Custral tab you already have, preferring one in the same window, or in a new tab if there isn’t one.Install it
1
Add it to Chrome
Open the Custral listing in the Chrome Web
Store and choose Add to Chrome.
Chrome lists what the extension can access before it installs; see Permissions for why each is
there.
2
Pin it
Click the puzzle-piece icon in Chrome’s toolbar and pin Custral, so it is one click away.
3
Sign in
Open the panel. If this Chrome profile isn’t signed in to Custral yet, choose Sign in, sign in in the Custral
tab that opens, then choose I’ve signed in back in the panel. The panel uses the same session as your Custral
tab.
4
Open it from anywhere
Click the Custral icon, or press
⌘⇧Y (Ctrl+Shift+Y on Windows and Linux). To change the shortcut, go to
chrome://extensions/shortcuts.In Arc
Arc has no side panel, so Custral opens as a popup under its icon, the way other extensions’ popups do. The first time you click the icon, Custral takes a second or two to find that out and may open in a window of its own; from then on the icon opens the popup.- It reads the tab you’re on, the same as the side panel.
- It closes when you click the page. Open it again and your chat is where you left it.
- The LinkedIn button and the right-click menu open the popup too. When Arc won’t open it for them, Custral opens in a window of its own at the right edge of your Arc window. That window reads the tab you’re on in the Arc window beside it, and closes when you close that Arc window.
Ask Stella about a page
Type your question in the panel and send it. Two switches above the message box decide what goes with it:
The page is read when you send. The one other time is a LinkedIn profile of
someone already in Custral (see Spot a new title). Turn Screenshot on
for pages that are mostly images, charts or canvas, where the text alone says
little. The strip under the panel’s header names the page Stella will read.
If the tab can’t be read, your message still goes, without the page, and
Stella couldn’t read this tab appears above the chat with the reason: a
browser page, a blank tab or a file, or a tab Custral isn’t allowed on yet (see
Troubleshooting).
Chats you start in the panel are ordinary Stella chats, and they appear in your
Stella history.
Add people and companies
On a LinkedIn profile, a company’s website or a team page, choose Add to Custral in the strip under the panel’s header. Stella reads the page then, and only then, and the panel shows what it found on a card:- A person: name, job title, company, email, phone, location and LinkedIn page. On a LinkedIn profile the job title is their current role under Experience; the headline counts only when it names a role, like “VP Sales”.
- A company: name, website, and the other details the page gives. On a team or leadership page, the people listed on it (up to 10) appear underneath, each with a checkbox.
- You’re the owner of what you add, and a person is linked to their company.
- Adding their company too? When it isn’t in Custral yet, tick Also add it. Its Website is filled in, marked From the page, when the page writes it.
- Already in Custral? The panel shows the record instead of the card, with Open in Custral, Sequence, Lists and Ask Stella about it. A match on the same LinkedIn page, email or domain is certain; a match on name alone says so, so you can check it’s the same person before adding another.
- Where records go is your workspace’s objects for people and companies, set in Settings → Standard Objects. If none is set, the panel says so.
- Auto-fill runs as usual. A person or company added from the panel is a new record like any other, so your workspace’s auto-fill agents that run on create fill in the rest.
Values with no field, and your other fields
- A value your workspace has no field for is listed under the card, in On the page, with no field in Company yet (or Person). It isn’t saved as it is. Choose Add field to add a field of the right kind (text, email, phone or website) to that object; the row then shows Added, and the value is saved with the record. The new field is part of your workspace from then on.
- Adding a field needs edit access to the object and to your workspace’s schema. Without it there’s no Add field, and the card says who can.
- More fields lists the object’s other fields, like Stage, Type or Plan: the first five, then and N more. Fill in any you like before you choose Add, or choose Hide. Owner starts as you.
- Only fields you can see and edit appear. A field hidden from you, or read-only for you, never does.
A missing email or phone
When the card has no email or no phone for a person, Custral looks for them in your own email and fills them in on the card:- The email is their address on the most recent thread they’re on: one
whose name on the email matches theirs, or an address at their company’s
website shaped like their name (
jane.doe@,jdoe@,janed@), when the page gives the website. Addresses that belong to your workspace are skipped. - The phone comes from the signature on the latest email they sent from that address.
- Each says where it came from under the field: From your email · last seen Sep 12, or From their email signature · Sep 12. Change the value and the note goes.
- Only empty fields are filled. A value from the page, or one you typed, is never replaced.
- Only mailboxes you can already open in Custral are read: your own, and any a teammate has shared with you. A mailbox that’s still syncing is left out. Nothing is saved until you choose Add.
On LinkedIn
Open the panel on LinkedIn and choose Allow on LinkedIn. From then on, every profile and company page shows a button at the top right:
LinkedIn shows the email and phone someone shares with you only in their
Contact info panel, and Custral never opens it. When that panel wasn’t open
and the card still lacks an email or phone, the card says so: open Contact
info on the profile, then choose Read again on the card. The second read
fills only fields that are still empty, and keeps your edits and ticks.
A company’s website works the same way: LinkedIn shows it only on the company’s
About tab. When you add a company from another tab and the card has no
website, open About, then choose Read again.
The button looks up the page’s address in Custral and nothing else; the page
itself is read only when you choose Add. It doesn’t appear on your feed,
search results or Sales Navigator. Choose × to hide it on one page, or turn
off LinkedIn buttons in the panel’s settings.
Spot a new title
When the panel is open on the LinkedIn profile of someone already in Custral, and their record holds that same LinkedIn page, the panel reads the profile and compares the job title with the record’s. If it changed, it says so:This profile shows a new title Head of Procurement → VP of ProcurementChoose Update record to save the new title, or Ignore to hide the suggestion for that title. Nothing changes until you choose. The panel only suggests changes you’re allowed to make.
Add to a sequence or a list
On a record the panel shows (a match, or one you just added):- Sequence lists the sequences for that kind of record, with how many steps, over how many days, and how many records are in each. It previews the first step as this person would get it, with their name and details filled in. Choose one, then Enroll. A sequence that’s turned off, or that the record is already in, is shown but can’t be picked. Enrolling needs edit access to the workspace.
- Lists shows the lists the record is in. Use + to add it to another, or × to take it off one. Smart lists, which fill themselves from a filter, aren’t offered.
Email from the panel
Choose Email on a record the panel shows. You get the same composer as the New message window in Custral, addressed to the record: your mailboxes under From, your signature, snippets (type; or /), attachments, Rewrite with
AI, and the few seconds to undo after Send.
- Start from a template fills the subject and body from one of your templates, with the person’s details filled in. Picking a template starts the message again.
- If the record has more than one address, pick one under To.
- The email sends from your mailbox and files like any Custral email.
Call from the panel
Choose Call on a record the panel shows. The panel isn’t a phone: your own device rings first, and answering it dials the number.- Pick the number, if the record has more than one.
- Pick where to ring under Ring me on: the Custral desktop app, the mobile app, a Custral tab open in your browser, or your own mobile number once it’s verified in Settings → Security.
- Choose Call, then answer on that device.
Click to call
Turn on Click to call in the panel’s settings (the sliders button at the top of the panel), and Chrome asks to let Custral read the sites you visit. Phone numbers on any page are then underlined with a dotted line. Hover one and choose Call with Custral to open the call in the panel, or Copy.- It’s off until you turn it on.
- Numbers are found on your computer. Nothing about the page is sent anywhere until you choose Call with Custral, and then only the number.
- Custral doesn’t change the page. The underline is drawn over the page, so sites keep working as they did.
- If the number belongs to someone in Custral, the call is logged on them.
Save to Custral
Select text on any page, right-click it and choose Save to Custral. The panel opens with the quote:- Save as a Note, added to the record’s notes with a link back to the page, or a Task.
- On is the record the page is about, when Custral can tell (a LinkedIn profile, or a company’s own website), marked From this page. Search to save it on any other record.
- Remind me adds a task for you at 9am on the day you pick. For a task, the same chips set its due date.
Who knows them
On a person or company already in Custral, choose Who knows them. The panel lists the people on your team who have emailed that company in the last 12 months, strongest connection first:- How many email threads they’ve had with people there, who they talk to most, and when they last did.
- Strong, Some or Light: many threads, or several recent ones, count as strong.
- Ask for an intro opens your composer with a short email to that teammate, for you to edit and send.
Save a table
On a page with a table, like a conference’s speaker list or a directory, click the table button next to Add to Custral. Custral reads the largest table on the page, only when you click, and shows:- Save as: the object the rows become, usually People.
- Columns: where each column goes. Pick a property, or Don’t save.
- Duplicates: when the table has an email column, rows for people already in Custral update their record instead of adding them twice.
Snippets in any text box
Turn on Snippets in the extension’s settings, then type/ in a text box on
any site: an email, a LinkedIn message, a support form. Your Custral snippets
appear beside the cursor.
- Keep typing to narrow the list:
/introfinds snippets whose shortcut or name starts with “intro”. - ↑ and ↓ choose, Enter or Tab inserts, Esc closes. While the list is open, Enter inserts the snippet instead of sending your message.
- On a LinkedIn profile of someone in Custral, merge fields like their first
name are filled in from their record. Anywhere else they’re left as a blank in
brackets, like
[first name], for you to fill. - Your own snippets come first, then your team’s, then everyone’s. Add and edit them in Custral under Settings, Snippets.
/ menu, or in
password fields.
Log a LinkedIn conversation
Open a conversation in LinkedIn messages and choose Log to Custral on the page, or Log in the panel. Custral reads that one conversation, only when you click, and shows what’s new since you last logged it.- Saves to is the person, matched by the name LinkedIn shows. Pick someone else if it’s wrong.
- Also on adds it to their company too. Remove it with the ×.
- Log saves the messages to both records as a LinkedIn conversation, on their timelines. Logging the same conversation again adds only the new messages.
- When someone asked you for something, or you promised something, Stella offers it as tasks. Add tasks puts them on the person; Skip doesn’t.
Prep for a call
Open the panel on a Google Meet, Zoom or Teams call that’s on your calendar. Custral matches the call’s link to your calendar event, so it never reads the call page itself, and shows:- The meeting and when it starts, with Send notetaker to have Stella record it, and a link to the company.
- On this call: everyone on the invite except your team. People already in Custral show In Custral; click it to open their record. Anyone else has an Add button, which adds them with the name and email from the invite.
- Last time: what was agreed on your most recent call or meeting with them, from its summary.
- Open tasks on their records.
Draft a reply
On a conversation (LinkedIn messages, Gmail, Outlook, Slack, Teams, WhatsApp, Messenger or X), the page strip offers Draft reply. Stella reads the conversation when you click it, and the record the page matched when there is one, and writes a reply in your voice.- Edit the draft, or tap Shorter, Warmer, More direct or Add a question to change it.
- What should it say? steers it: type what you want and press Enter or Try again.
- Insert into message puts it into the message box you last clicked on the page. If Custral can’t reach that box, it copies the draft so you can paste it.
Search from the address bar
Typecu, a space, then a name in Chrome’s address bar. People, companies and
conversations from Custral appear as you type; pick one to open it. Press Enter
on what you typed to open Custral’s search with it.
Settings
The sliders button at the top of the panel opens the extension’s settings, which also appear the first time you open the panel:
Turning a switch on asks Chrome for the sites it needs. Turning it off stops it
straight away.
What Custral can see
- Only the tab beside the panel, only when you send. Nothing is read in the background, and the extension never asks for your browsing history.
- The tab you opened Custral on. Clicking the icon or pressing
⌘⇧Ygives the panel access to that tab. If you switch tabs, the panel shows Allow on every site; allow it once and the panel follows you from tab to tab. Chrome asks you to confirm. - On LinkedIn, the address of profile and company pages, once you allow it, so the button can say who’s already in Custral.
- What you right-click, when you choose Save to Custral or Ask Stella
about this, and what you type after
cuin the address bar. - Phone numbers, on your computer, if you turn on Click to call. Only the number you choose to call leaves the page.
- Text boxes, on your computer, if you turn on Snippets, to notice a
/. Nothing you type leaves the page. - The address of a video call, to find it on your calendar. The call page itself is never read.
- The profile of someone already in Custral, when the panel is open on it and their record holds that LinkedIn page, to spot a new title. Nothing is saved unless you choose Update record.
- Your own email, for a missing email or phone, when you choose Add and the card lacks one. Only mailboxes you can already open in Custral.
- Some pages are off limits. The browser doesn’t let any extension read its
own pages (
chrome://…,arc://…), blank tabs, files on your computer or the Chrome Web Store.
Changes wait for your approval
A web page is someone else’s writing, so Stella treats it as information and never as instructions:- While a page is attached, every change Stella proposes waits for you (updating a record, sending an email, creating a task), even if your chat is set to Auto. Always allow rules don’t apply to these chats either. See Permissions.
- If a page contains text written to AI assistants (“ignore your previous instructions…”), the panel warns you. Stella ignores it.
