Overview

Blocking a sender stops their email from reaching your inbox. Once you block someone, any future email they send to that account is moved straight to Trash. It never appears in your inbox and never marks as unread. It’s the stronger counterpart to Unsubscribe: unsubscribe asks the sender to stop, blocking guarantees you stop seeing them.

How it works

  • Per account. A block applies only to the inbox you blocked from. If you have the same nuisance sender on two connected accounts, block them on each.
  • Future mail only. Blocking affects messages that arrive after you block. The email you blocked from is moved to Trash for you; older messages already in your inbox are left as they are.
  • Moved to Trash, not deleted forever. Blocked mail lands in Trash and follows your provider’s normal Trash retention (recoverable for ~30 days on most providers). Nothing is permanently destroyed at block time.
  • Reversible. Unblocking stops the auto-Trash immediately; the sender’s future mail returns to the inbox.

Using it

Open the email

Open any email from the sender you want to block.

Block the sender

Click the Block (🚫) action in the email toolbar. The open email moves to Trash and a confirmation appears with an Undo link.

Manage or undo

Use Undo in the toast to reverse it immediately, or visit Settings → Blocked Senders any time to review every block and Unblock a sender.

Troubleshooting

Blocking is per account. Confirm you blocked the sender on the same inbox the email arrived in. Check Settings → Blocked Senders: the Account column shows which inbox each block covers. Also note blocking only affects mail that arrives after the block; messages already in the inbox stay put.
Open Settings → Blocked Senders and click Unblock on that row. Their future email will arrive in the inbox again. Anything already moved to Trash can be restored from your Trash folder.
Use Unsubscribe instead of Block when the sender offers it. That removes you from a mailing list without trashing everything from that address.
